A Christmas Puppy

0 A Christmas PuppyThe photographs in this video are pictures of homeless, unwanted dogs that I have received in appeals from desperate rescuer’s trying to save their lives. Shelters are overflowing and thousands of dogs are being put to death every week because of overbreeding. We cannot continue this way. Human kind has created this holocaust for our companion pets. Last year I counted the puppies for sale in my local free advertiser newspaper, there were over 500 in just one week leading up to Christmas. It’s time we stopped breeding dogs as products for profit. It’s time to stop the overpopulation of man’s best friend and it’s time to educate people that dogs are not toys you can grow tired of and neglect. It’s time to save lives…

‘A Christmas Puppy’

They took you in then they soon found out
You were trouble to them, now they want you out!
They don’t want your noise, your little accidents
They just want peace, and good riddance!
They thought a dog would be fun, they’d take it for walks
But a few months later, they shout when you bark
A few months later the walks are no more…
You sit by the window and stare at the door
You’ve nothing to do but what do they care
You’re no longer a pup and they’ve no money to spare
So you don’t get your walks and you’ll sometimes go hungry
They’ll go to the pub and up their money
You’ll get tied in the garden come rain or come shine
You’re slowly forgotten under the washing line
You’ll wander in circles and sleep out the hours
Chew on your tail and dig up the flowers
You’ll hear other dogs as they pass on the street
You’ll long to be with them, share a game, have a treat
But no one in your house will notice your plight
As they close the curtains and turn on the lights
The winter will come and they’ve almost forgotten…
That there’s you in the cold and your dog house is sodden
You’ve nothing to play with and nothing to eat
And nobody can see you through the fence from the street
You’ve sat there for months in your own quiet hell
A puppy they bought off a bloke they knew well
He’s got a new litter n’ he’s selling again
And already it’s Christmas, but now you’re in pain
Your eyes are like hollows, your ribs are on show
You’re broken by sorrow but nobody knows
As you lick your sore feet and wince, how you hurt…
You’re wasting away to a grave in the dirt
But inside the festive dinner is served
And a present is given to a very young girl
She screams with joy as the box opens up
And there in the corner, is a new fluffy pup!
Farewell to young Bess in the garden, you died…
You didn’t have long, a year then goodbye
They buried you, said you were sickly and bad
But this new dog they’ve got is the best that they’ve had.

My heart is … My heart is absolutely breaking. We rescued my dog Cassie when she was a year old. She was thin, her furr was horrible. But now she’s fattened up, healthy and her furr is so shiny. I’m so glad we did. I love my silly wee puppy.

I remember finding … I remember finding a dog that we named eclipse, she was a homeless dog when we found her my mom called these people to come take her away from her house, but we loved her so much, she stayed for about a week, then the truck came and took her when we were in school, I was crying so much to know that she was gone, my mom said she had called a no-kill shelter, I hope she was telling the truth. I still cry to this day when she left which was in January 2012
I hope her owners had found her because i

my dog had a litter … my dog had a litter of puppies, and after we sold them to loving homes of people we knew had jobs for them to do(they are border collies), we took my dog to get spayed, and she recovered quickly, we kept her inside for a week so she didnt run around and rip her stitches, but after that she could go out (:

  17. MsPoodlehead says:

I am heartbroken at … I am heartbroken at those sad faces, I wish I could adopt them all. There are so many ignorant people out there, who in their right mind would give a child a puppy for christmas, like it is a barbie doll or something, and if you don’t like it just throw it to one side and play with a different one? There should be a licencing system in place, €5000 licence to breed your pet dog, fines if you break it. People should have to do a course on animal care before being allowed to get a pet.

and rescue a pet … and rescue a pet WHICH COSTS MORE THAN FIXING THEM, but what does that do for the dog on the street? Nothing.

I suppose, of course, that this case is not very often in most places, but where I live there are plenty of wandering dogs and many very kind, very poor people.

  20. plusCHEESE says:

That was a little … That was a little rude. What about the people who rescue dogs off the street? What if they can’t afford to fix the dog? They should just give up this dog that they rescued because they are unfit to own them? Fixing dogs is very important, and in most every case, it should be done. But sometimes the very people who will treat their dogs with the greatest love cannot afford to fix these dogs they strive so hard to save. What about them, hm? Sure they could go to the pound

  21. plusCHEESE says:

Huh, we got our dog … Huh, we got our dog on Halloween. No trick-or-treating for us that year!!! And for all those people about spaying/neutering: I understand all of your concern, but there are happy unnuertered dogs out there. It doesn’t make you a bad owner not to neuter or spay your dog, as long as you are attentive to the risks and are careful about it.

This does not mean that I think neutering should not be done! The average dog owner (including myself) should have their pets spayed and neutered.

This is so sad, but … This is so sad, but so true. I hate it when people buy dogs for christmas presents, or just buy them and not regard the breed so in a few years it will be discarded like an old sock. It seems to me people get puppies all well and good, but as soon as they get too big to pick up and hug, they don’t want them anymore. people don’t realised having a dog is at least a 14 year commitment. If you aren’t ready, You shouldnt get a dog.
Such a sad video. All these dogs looked so sad. 🙁

  25. Detson101 says:

Lol. Whether … Lol. Whether something is a person or not is relative. We’re all animals together. An alien watching human dating would probably say the same things about us, “clearly no will or pleasure, only need.” Well, sure there’s need; why else would people go to all the trouble? That said, as a pet owner I want my golden to live a long and healthy life, so we had him fixed. We are responsible for our pets welfare.
